Statement from House Democrats Leader Todd Rutherford on Gov. McMaster’s budget proposal

COLUMBIA, SOUTH CAROLINA – January 6, 2023 – In response to Gov. Henry McMaster releasing his proposal for the 2023 state budget – which includes $380 million in American Rescue Plan funds for improvements to rural water systems, among other things – House Democrats Leader Todd Rutherford released the following statement:

“It’s refreshing to see the Governor follow the lead of Democrats by calling for more funding for schools, roads, infrastructure, and public employees. I’d like to see him go further, but this is a good start. Much of this funding is thanks to President Biden and Democrats in Congress for passing the American Rescue Plan to help us rebuild from the pandemic. It is my hope that the Governor will give credit where it’s due for this transformational funding.”
